For those who qualify for Extra Help and/or Medicaid, it’s never too late to make a change.
Even if your clients only qualify for a little bit of Extra Help, they are eligible for a quarterly SEP. During these times, they can join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage plan or Medicare prescription drug coverage once per quarter.
Here’s how quarterly SEPs work
If change is made:
Change takes effect on:
First Quarter SEP: January through March
The first day of the following month
Second Quarter SEP: April through June
The first day of the following month
Third Quarter SEP: July through September
The first day of the following month
This SEP can’t be used from October-December. However, anyone with Medicare can make changes to their coverage during the Medicare Advantage Annual Election Period (AEP). Changes made during AEP take effect on 1 de janeiro of the following year.
