2021 Policy Updates
Qualified Integrated Behavioral Health Primary Care Practice
- Effective upon their 2021 renewal, all BCBSRI-insured plans will waive copays for certain behavioral health services provided to a member on the same day and at the same location as a PCP visit to a Qualified Integrated Behavioral Health Primary Care Practice.
- Effective upon their 2021 renewal, all BCBSRI self-funded plans will also provide coverage to be consistent with our commercial plans, unless they opt-out of making this change.
- This will allow members to see behavioral health providers during their PCP visits without paying a second copay and will reduce barriers for members seeking the appropriate care.
Dental – Total Health Solutions
- Effective upon their 2021 renewal, all commercial BCBSRI plans will be providing 100% coverage for deep cleaning services (non-surgical periodontal maintenance) for members with diabetes and/or Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).
- Members who have both medical and dental insurance with BCBSRI will be enrolled automatically. Dental-only members will have the ability to self-identify the diagnosis.
- This change will not only encourage healthier dental habits but also remove any barriers for diabetic/CAD members in need of this service.
