Celebrated annually in May, Mental Health Month provides an opportunity to promote awareness, offer resources and education, and advocate for the mental health and well-being of all. In any given year, nearly one in five adults in the United States will have a diagnosable mental health condition, which further demonstrates the importance of bringing awareness to this topic and decreasing stigma.
Mental Health Month was created by Mental Health America in 1949. This year’s theme, Where to Start: Mental Health in a Changing World, sheds light on how it can be overwhelming to know which steps to take or “where to start" when it comes to taking care of one’s own mental well-being.
