Update to BCBSRI Notice of Admission Process

Beginning 5 de fevereiro, 2024, BCBSRI will no longer require a Notice of Admission for the following services:

  • Intensive Outpatient (mental health and/or substance use disorder)
  • Child and Family Intensive Treatment (CFIT)
  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

This change will apply to both in-network and out-of-network requests for the above services for Commercial and Medicare Advantage Plans only.  Note:  for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) requests, diagnosis requirements for clinical appropriateness will still apply.

As a reminder, the Federal Employee Program (FEP) is exempt from the Notification of Admission process. A medical necessity review is still required for the following in-network behavioral health services:

  • Inpatient Mental Health
  • Inpatient Withdrawal Management
  • Residential Treatment Center (mental health and/or substance use disorder)
  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
