Vicki Virgilio

Vicki Virgilio became a member of Local Union 1033 in 1978 when she began working for the city of Providence as a legal secretary in the City Solicitor’s Office. Shortly thereafter, she became a union steward and along with 1,000 other Local Union 1033 city employees, she walked the picket lines in several labor strikes in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. In 1986, Ms. Virgilio became the recording secretary of Local Union 1033 as well as a trustee of The Rhode Island Public Employees’ Health Services Fund.

In 1991, Ms. Virgilio became employee benefits coordinator in the Personnel Department for the City of Providence.

Ms. Virgilio remained the recording secretary of Local Union 1033 until 1998. She became president of Local Union 1033 upon the untimely death of her father, Joe Virgilio. Ms. Virgilio has also served as a trustee for The Rhode Island Public Employees’ Legal Services Fund for more than 25 years and The Rhode Island Public Employees’ Training Fund since its creation several years ago.

Ms. Virgilio was appointed by General Secretary-Treasurer Armand E. Sabitoni to serve on the Women’s and Minority Caucus of the Laborers’ International Union of North America. She also serves as a delegate to the Rhode Island Central Federated Council and The Laborers’ District Council.

Ms. Virgilio, an appointee of the Senate President, was formally elected to the Blue Cross board of directors in 20 de março23.
